Got this mail from Abhay saying that he would be mailing the check to the family of Sri.RahulShinde in Sholapur. With this we have distributed the donations we had collected to all the families we had on our list.
Once again, thanks to one and all for their precious contributions. Wish that you all be blessed with prosperity and always be capable of such noble deeds in the future.

I was in Hyderabad, then in Bangalore, again in Hyderabad and then on a trip to the Andamans and arrived home yesterday. In the meanwhile, I have got a reply from the office of the Joint Com m of Police and have got the contact details of the father of Shri Rahul Shinde. I talked to the concerned police officer in Solapur today and will be sending him the amount with the covering note and a cheque in the name of the father of Late Shri Rahul. With this the distribution process would be completed. For the record, the final collection fell short by Rs 5000 due to unforseen circumstances, but as most of you have seen, we also had some extra collections.
About the plan to have a ongoing fund for the children of 3 of the constables, NOTHING final is worked out yet and though I have a good response to the same from some of you, at this moment, its on ice and I will inform you when something workable developes. If there are a couple of thousand Rs left fromt he amount already collected, I shall donate it to an appropriate charity at my discretion. (may not be the case because of the 5k shortage).
Once again, thanks all for your support. I have one more request. As I have told you, the guardians of our law live in pitiable conditions. It iws only a miracle that some of them manage to rermain honest under such conditions. Unless their lot improves, we cant expect them to be able to perform better. Do you have any suggestions on what we , as citizens can do to highlight their plight?

Funds delivered to 7 off the 8 families : Your thoughts about helping the kins requested
Have just received a mail from Abhay mentioning that the funds were delivered to 7 off the 8 families. The mail is copied below.
I would hereby like to request you all to ponder about Abhays' suggestion to help the infants of the 3 of the constables. Please do leave your suggestions under comments of this post.

As of today. the amounts have been distributed to 7 of the 8 families with the family of Rahul Shinde in SHolapur pending. Needless to say, on behalf of them, I convey my thanks to you for the gesture.
I write this mail with a special request. 3 of the constables were very young and were recent fathers. All with kids ranging from just a few days old to less than a year or two at the time of their untimely death. They Are
1) Vijay Khandekar (daughter, infant, very small)
2) Ambadas pawar Son infant, very small
3) Jayant patil 2 children, very small.
I am hoping that we can continue doing something for these kids. I am thinking along the lines of opening an account wherein each of us who is willing deposits some amount monthly and we pay it to them on a quarterly basis for a period of about 5 years. I woudl like to know your thoughts on this.

Delivery Phase : Funds delivered to 4 off the 8 families today
The original blog post has become too long with updates; hence decided to post a separate blog with the latest updates. As promised, Abhay started delivering the funds to the constables' families today. Below is the mail from Abhay ....
- I have got a few mails stating that I did somethign good or extraordinary. Please desist. If at all anything worthwhile is done, it is by everyone.
- Today was one of the most touching days of my life. I went around and managed to meet four families and deliver your contribution. I did not see a single tear the whole day. For those of you who know Mumbai, I visited Nagpada, Dharavi, Antop Hill and Prateeksha Nagar. I met the families, talked to them, sat in their house, none of which was bigger than my bathroom, and walked thru a maze of filth and narrow (1.5 feet lanes) to get there). Why am I telling you this? Self glorification? No, to help you understand how the custodianss of our lives live. 10 to a room, and they dont complain.
- I have got almost all the addresses. I have 4 more deliveries to make, 1 in Mumbai and 3 outside. I will keep you posted. My world changed today.

Donations for the slain Mumbai Police Constables' Families during the recent terror attacks
As you are all aware, quite a lot of lives were lost during the recent Mumbai terror attacks which also included some policemen. While the high ranked officials are generally well off, we all are aware that the constables usually are not.
Impressed by the suggestion of one of my cricket team members who suggested the idea of pooling in some donations and donate it to the families of these constables' families directly. The idea of handing over the amount directly to the families would not only avoid reduction in the amount due to the overheads of the NPOs but also its misuse. A cousin of mine has volunteered to personally hand over the check to the families.The list of the policemen who lost their lives are listed on http://www.mumbaipolice.org/ and we were thinking of donating at least Rs 10,000/- for each of the constables' families. Hence the target is to raise at least $1600; anything more is good too.
Please do email/call me if you wish to donate for this noble cause. Please note that this fund raiser is not through CricBay and hence the donations are not tax deductible.

- Megastars have committed for a contribution of $120. Will be sending Rs 11,000/- (corresponsing to the last 2 contributions) tonight to Mumbai.
- Also, have received a mail from Abhay from Mumbai indicating that Approximately Rs87,000/- was collected from his friends and relatives which brings the total amount to Rs 1,78,000/- (Abhay's email would be posted here in the evening)
- We would like to close the collection of donations at this stage and Abhay would be visiting the families of the police constables starting tomorrow and handing over the amount.
